A few changes will be implemented beginning January 2014. The proposed revised rules have been posted at the socald3.com website. Here's the link to the 2014 rules: socald3.com/site/D3_Car_Race_Regulations/Entries/2013/1/5_D3_HARD_BODY_racing_regulations.htmlThe following changes will be implemented January 2014: 1. 1946-1956 NASCAR class will use the TSR D3 or Falcon 7 motors. Reason for change: the Falcon 2 motor production ended quite some time ago and are no longer available. The TSR D3 and Falcon 7 motors are available and also provide more power/speed for these cars. We raced two cars recently using TSR D3 and Falcon 7 motors. These cars were about .1 to .2 sec. faster per lap, but still very driveable. 2. 1980 and 1990-2013 classes will become one class, 1980-2013 NASCARs. This class will also be used for the "handicap" race. 3. 1960-1979 36D NASCAR class will be changed to "1957-1979". This class also allows Falcon 2 or Slick 7 Mini Brute motors along with the stock 36D motor. 4. 3 C's class will include "Vipers" as well as 1950 thru present 3 C cars. 5. Added same wording to all classes concerning wheelbase to be "center of wheel well plus or minus 1/16".The above changes will take affect January 2014. There are some text formatting errors on the revised rules which I cannot correct at this time. Some time in the future I will be producing an all new website specifically for hardbody racing. The new website will have a lot of photos and be easier to find info on any hardbody topic. Keith

I like these new rule changes.
I've looked at a couple of Viper models and it seems like it will be challenging to fit a chassis under them. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

One additional revision to the proposed rules for 2014 would include adding the Falcon 7 and TSR D3 motors to the 1957-1979 NASCAR class. This change would allow this class to compete with the '46-'56 class. 36D motors would still be included with the '57-'79 class.
Any comments?

The motor change for the '57-'79 class would again make two classes virtually alike. While it would ease the challenge of building and probably make the class more popular, I think it would dilute both classes. A better solution might be to find another alternative to the Falcon 2 motor. I have not tried the Mini Brute, but have been told it isn't too good.

Craig, the main problem with the Falcon II and Mini brute motors is that they are not equivalent in race speed to the 36D as far as sustaining consistent speed thru 8 heats. They run fine for half the race but slow down in the 2nd half of the race due to motor heat. In the test races using the Falcon 7 or TSR D3 motors, they are a little quicker than a 36D but the total laps is about the same. The record total laps for a 36D NASCAR is 223 laps. The total lap record for the '46-'56 class is 222 laps just set by Gonzo in this month's race. The 36D has more torque and thus you can run a heavier car which is faster thru the turns than the Falcon 7/TSR D3 powered cars.
We can look for an alternate motor for the Falcon II/Mini Brute motors but I'm not aware of any currently available which provide the right combination of speed and consistency thruout an 8 heat race.
The 36D NASCAR class as we know it will fade away over time as less and less racers have the interest or know-how in providing a competitive 36D motor. The Falcon 7/TSR D3 motors will provide an alternate motor for the 36D cars and allow them to compete with the '46-'56 class.

OK, at least it happened before I built another '59-'79 car. Anyone want three slightly used Falcon 2's? LOL
