D3 Hardbody racing consists of using a 1/24 or 1/25 plastic body from model kits (Revell, Monogram, AMT, Moebius Models, MPC, Johan, Tamiya, Hasegawa, Fujimi, etc.) along with a "scratchbuilt" chassis and inexpensive "sealed" motor. The scratchbuilt chassis is similar to "Retro" racing chassis as far as materials used (brass, piano wire, steel) and the building techniques (soldering) employed.
Currently, there are 15 racing classes: '40s-'50s Stock cars, '60s-'70s NASCARs, 1980-2018 Sprint Cup Nascars, Trans Am, Under 2 Liter Trans Am (and Mini Cooper/Fiat Abarth), Jalopy, 3 C's (corvette, cobra, cheetah), Group C/IMSA GTP, FPS (Foreign Production Sports), WRC (FIA World Rally Championship), Porsche 911/934, Mid-Engine, DTM/GTR/GT3/Super GT, Short Track NASCAR and Utility X-Class.
A "Lap Differential" is used to level the playing field between different racing classes in the same race. Besides a regular podium, we have a "Racer Handicap" podium which is used to provide a more equal opportunity for all racers to be on the podium.
