In recent months we've had enough racers show up for more than one main race for NASCARs. It's good to have more racers show up each month but it does extend the race day by having one more race.
From experience we've learned that for most racers, two races per race day is about their limit. We have about 6 to 8 racers who show up regularly each month and typically will race at least two races each month. A few (4 or 5) racers will race all three races each month.
As the number of different racing classes and cars built increases with each passing month, its maybe time to start thinking of adding another race day each month.
The reason for having another race day each month would be three-fold. One, to provide the opportunity to race more often for those who can't seem to get enough racing one day per month. Two, to perhaps schedule races each month so that different classes are run more often (since a few of our classes are rarely run separately). And three, to shorten the race day so that late arrivals/early departures will get in two races easily.
With our annual Hardbody Nats coming up in October (18th, 19th), its apparent that some of our racing classes are rarely run even though we have our "mixed" race each month. For some, running all of our racing classes only once per year may not be enough. It would be nice to run all of our classes sometime during the year more than once per year. Perhaps our monthly race schedule could be revised to provide more variety in the classes run each month.
Running any hardbody car together in one "mixed" race has definitely helped "broaden" the variety of cars being built and raced, but the differences in performance between classes tends to limit the number of entries for the "mixed" race as well as its the third (or 4th) race of the day when most racers are too tired and/or have to go home in time for dinner. On a side note, we can use a race "differential" handicap to provide the mixed racers a more equal chance at the podium (without using a driver handicap, but a lap handicap based on the differences between racing classes).
A possible scenario for revising our monthly race schedule:
Having two race days a month would shorten the race day to two races. This would help those who tend to arrive late and/or leave early each month.
The first race could start at 1 pm so our late arrivals will still be present for the first race of the day.
Having only two races per race day would allow a short lunch break between races. This would be a scheduled lunch break for those who need to have lunch.
The second race would finish before 4:00 pm which would satisfy those who have to get home for dinner time. Having two race days a month will tend to lessen the amount of NASCAR racers who show up for both race days each month and therefore lessen the need for two NASCAR mains on each race day.
Two race days a month would satisfy those of us who want to race more often each month.
The reason for this post is to see if there's enough interest in going to two race days a month or keep our current one day a month schedule.
What race schedule each month do you favor?
