A 5th Sunday in August provided an extra hardbody race day at Buena Park Raceway.
A very good turnout with two new racers joining in the fun. Jeff Whisenand and Cedric Collins had their very first D3 hardbody races. Welcome to D3 Hardbody Racing, Jeff and Cedric.
Bob Krigbaum smashed the existing GTP total lap record with 258 laps. Bob could have gone over 260 laps but encountered some problems on the black lane. His new GTP is very fast and handles great.
"Fast" Eddie Shorer was fast again as he tied the existing 3 C's total lap record of 245 laps. Eddie drove Gonzo's white and red Corvette to another victory.
Hector "Carbonzo" Gonzalez drove his new Mini Cooper (new yellow paint job) against the larger cars in the second main of the day. He decided to use a Mini Brute motor instead of the TSR D3 motor to improve the driveability of the Mini in a race.
His Mini is fast but encountered some horrific wall blasts during the race. His Mini body had many cracks but he managed to tape it together and finish the race. Gonzo has proved once and again that you can build a good handling chassis for small, narrow cars. By the way, Gonzo's Mini is an inline chassis but handles like an anglewinder.
Thanks to Jim and Debby Watterson for their support of D3 Hardbody Racing at Buena Park Raceway.
Thanks to our race directors, Victor Dubrowsky, Keith Tanaka.
Here's the race/photo report: race report
The next D3 Hardbody races on Sunday, September 20th. BPR opens at 10 am, Mixed race starts at noon, followed by the GTP/NASCAR race and finally, another Mixed race so racers can prepare their cars for the upcoming Nats in October.
5th Annual D3 Hardbody Nats, Sat/Sun, Oct. 17-18, 2015 at BPR.
