It's the 5th Sunday in January, time for some extra hardbody racing at Buena Park Raceway.
Quite a few of our regular racers missing today, but a fun day of racing as usual.
We ran an "inline" only race today for 40's-50's and 60's-70's NASCARs. A field of eleven inline cars provided a lot of deslots, some major crashes and a lot of laughs. These slower, top heavy cars with "character" styling provided a good change of pace for our normally faster paced hardbody racing. Many of our hardbody racers do not have much experience racing the hardbody inlines so it was also a learning experience for these racers.
Tim Neja driving his '62 Pontiac led the race until the later stages when he experienced a gear problem. Gonzo (Hector Gonzalez) who was just behind Tim for most of the race proceeded to take the lead and finish a number of laps ahead of the field. Mel Moon and Tim Herrera both driving '52 Hudson Hornets battled for 2nd and 3rd. Both Hudsons had major body damage (front grille/bumper missing on Mel's car, hood missing on Tim's Hudson) which made each car lighter in weight but still a challenge to drive.
This inline race was fun even with a lot of deslots and crashes. Hopefully in the future, we'll see more inline hardbodies built and raced before our Nats in October.
Thanks to Debby and Jim Watterson (with help from Eddie) at Buena Park Raceway for their support of D3 Hardbody Racing.
Thanks to our race director, Keith Tanaka

Our next D3 Hardbody races on Sunday, Feb. 21st. BPR opens at 10 am, mixed race starts at noon.
We'll begin signups for our WRC Enduro (May 15th) on Feb. 21st. Be sure to get your team signed up early to reserve one of the 8 spots for the Enduro.
