Two weeks after the D3 WRC Enduro, a light turnout of racers still provided a lot of fun with some very close racing on Memorial Day weekend.
The day's first race was for WRC cars. A field of 8 cars provided another opportunity for racers to drive their WRC cars, only this time at a faster pace than the recent WRC enduro.
Jay Henry won with Keith Tanaka not far behind. Ken Dylke, Eddie Shorer, Hector Gonzalez and Mel Moon were all not far behind the leaders at the finish. Once again, the WRC cars proved to have speed and good handling. The lap times and total laps were similar to the larger NASCAR class.
The second race was a combined race for GTPs and "any" NASCAR. Using a Lap Differential in this race didn't change the final outcome as the top three finishers bested both categories.
Victor Dubrowsky was just ahead of Jay Henry with their Porsche 962's at the finish with Eddie Shorer not far behind in 3rd with his 962. Jim Lane finished just a few inches ahead of Mel Moon for 4th, both driving NASCARs.
The final race of the day was a "Mixed Race (any D3 hardbody class) ended up being a 4 and 4 race in order to have enough turn marshalls. An eight racer round robin using the outer 4 lanes first, then the inner 4 lanes provided a different type of race. With only 4 cars on the track at the same time, racers were able to keep their cars in the slot better as the amount of deslots was about half which reduced the number of crashes and track calls.
Hector Gonzalez driving his Datsun 510 (under 2.5 liter Trans Am class) finished just ahead of Jim Lane (NASCAR) on the same lap with Jim Watterson finishing 3rd with his Jalopy.
It was another fun filled day of hardbody racing at Buena Park Raceway.
Thanks to Debby and Jim Watterson with help from Eddie for supporting D3 Hardbody Racing at BPR.
Thanks to our race directors, Victor Dubrowsky and Keith Tanaka.
