Hi Keith, can you please list examples of legal bodies for the upcoming enduro? Thanks, Jim

Jim, until we get a list going, it's basically DTM and GTR cars. They must be front engine cars (no mid-engine versions allowed). As far as adding GT3's, I'm still looking into these cars as there are quite a few model kits. The DTM and GTR model kits available are limited and most are not cheap. Stay tuned for a final decision on whether or not we add GT3 cars to the enduro. Originally, next year's enduro was planned for DTM and GTR cars, but I discovered the limited amount of kits available. Some DTMs are kind of funky as the multiple mini fins on front and rear as well as the multitude of body parts needed to assemble a finished body. The older DTM model kits are not as wide bodied as the newer cars. The GTR cars are similar as well as far as age of the car and body width. I noticed awhile back that some of the GT3 cars are similar in size and shape as the DTM and GTR cars. The Porsche GT3 cars are rear engine cars so they probably will not be allowed, but no final decision yet on the Porsches.

Keith, can we assume that front engine GT3 are legal. Or should we submit approval first?

Jim, I'm close to making a final decision on whether or not to add GT3's to the new DTM/GTR class (for the enduro). So far I've only seen a few GT3 model kits (BMW Z4 GT3, Mercedes AMG GT3). The McLaren MP4 GT3 is not legal since it's a mid-engine car. The actual GT3 racing class has many different cars/mfgs listed, but many are either not front engined or are already in one of our other racing classes (i.e., Trans Am, Corvettes (3 C's). Are there any particular model kit(s) you are interested in using for the enduro?

I was interested in the Z4 and the AMG GT3. What about any of the front engine Super GT cars? R-34, R-35, Levas SC, (which I have), Toyota 86 (rocket bunny) which I also have.

The Lexus SC is similar to the DTM/GTR/GT3 cars but I don't believe it ever raced in these classes. Sorry, but it will not be allowed in this new racing class. The R34, R35 cars are legal if they are GTR cars. The Super GT and Toyota 86 are also not legal for this racing class. Update: see posts below for latest ruling on Super GT being allowed, Toyota 86 is being considered but not final yet.
As I mentioned previously, the GT3 cars will probably be allowed but only after they are approved since some of them are much larger (wider) cars than the DTM and GTR cars.
It's not easy to create a new hardbody racing class since the main goal is to provide another distinct racing class (based on real racing classes) but try to keep the cars as competitive as possible by the dimensional (mainly body and tire width) specs. Also, we don't want any particular car to become dominant (performance wise) simply because it has a physical (body width) advantage over other cars in the class.

Keith, we realize it's not easy to create a class we have yet to race. But choosing one that has very expensive kits and limiting our choices to cars we don't already race makes it difficult. Do you have any concerns over all the small aero wings that some of the DTM cars have on the front and rear fenders? I do. It will be a mess cleaning all these little pieces out of the slot during the race. Not to mention whether we will be responsible to re attach them before we continue. I'm not trying to be a PITA, but these things need to be considered before we set the rules in stone. One more thing on the Super GT cars. Although they never raced together with the GTR, GT3 or DTM cars, they had VERY similar specs. That's my $.02

Jim, you're right about some of the newer DTM model cars (circa 2009-2011). They have very small fins on the front and rear portions of the body. I don't care for these bodies myself because of the small fins. Also, these particular model kits have multiple body pieces which makes the build very difficult (just ask Jay Henry about these as he built one recently). Unfortunately, the DTM model kits are not ideal and most are expensive compared to our typical hardbody kits. That's why I'm considering adding GT3 model kits to this new racing class. I haven't looked at the Super GT model kits available, but will check into them. If they are similar in size and design to the DTM/GTR/GT3 model kits, then "maybe" we can add them to this new hardbody class. I definitely prefer having a good variety of model kits available for each racing class and hopefully they will be "reasonably" priced!
I will certainly consider adding the Super GT model kits if they are similar to the DM/GTR/GT3 model kits (as far as size -body width is concerned). Stay tuned as it will take some time for me to research what kits are available.

Just posted the rules for this new racing class. GT3 and Super GT cars are allowed along with DTM and GTR cars. Also, examples of various model kits for this new racing class are now posted, here's the link: model kit examples
