This latest version of the D3 Hardbody rules allows the Retro "Eagle 606" motor for all classes "except" for the Under 2 Liter Trans Am and Mini Cooper/Fiat Abarth classes.
D3 HARDBODY RACING REGULATIONS

D3 HARDBODY racing regulations (version 9-18-2023)
Note: All of the racing classes listed below use model car kit bodies
(AMT, Revell, Monogram, Moebius, Johan, MPC, Tamiya, Hasegawa, Fujimi, Aoshima, etc.)
UTILITY “X” Class
Body
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic model car kit.
This class is for the following types: suvs, station wagons, vans (trucks are now included with NASCAR rules - see below for Truck rules).
Besides the types above, a special subclass is for TV/movie custom cars (i.e., Batmobile, Ghostbusters, Munsters, Monkees)
Production or modified production cars (i.e., knight rider, back to the future, Dukes of Hazzard, Bullitt,
Smokey and the Bandit, etc.) are not allowed.
2. May alter wheel wells
3. Interior/driver required, but tv/movie cars do not require driver.
4. Must have front windshield and rear windows (if applicable, including quarter windows) from kit
or .007” thick (min.) clear plastic.
5. Body must extend beyond chassis when viewed from above. No part of chassis may be visible from
above and wider than the bottom portion of body. Body side panels cannot extend beyond vertical.
6. Body can be cut out (or modified) to provide clearance for spur gear, but gear must be covered.
7. Body must have 3 numbers except for tv/movie cars.
CHASSIS
1. May be anglewinder, sidewinder or inline.
2. Must be scratchbuilt using any materials.
3. Maximum chassis width 3.000”. Chassis cannot extend beyond body (bottom portion of body).
4. Wheelbase to be determined by center of wheel wells in body (plus or minus 1/16”).
Complete wheel/tire assembly must be visible in wheel well at a point level with axle centerline.
Bodies with side skirt covering wheel well area is allowed or can be removed if it resembles
real car.
5. Ground clearance - .050” rear min., .015” front min., measured under axles.
TIRES
1. Tires cannot extend beyond the body when viewed from above and cannot exceed 3.000” width.
2. Rear tire diameter, .950” minimum, maximum width .700”. Truck rear tire diameter: 1.000" min. maximum width .700"
3. Front tire diameter, .850” minimum, minimum width .225”. Truck front tire diameter: .875" min., minimum width .225".
MOTOR
1. Must use stock (sealed, no tampering) TSR D3, Falcon 7, Retro Hawk or Retro Eagle 606 motor.
CAN AM - 60’s LE MANS
BODY
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic model car kit.
Original Can Am cars (1966-1974), 60's Le Mans cars.
(except Porsche 917's, which can race in the mid-engine class)[/font][/b] and 60’s Le Mans cars.
2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May not alter wheel wells (bodies with side skirt covering wheel well area is allowed or can be
removed if it resembles real 1/1 race car)
4. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior.
5. Must use kit front and rear bumpers (if applicable) unless supported by photo documentation
6. Aero devices from kit or scratch built to resemble real car (documentation may be requested)
Cars with rear wing which Is not an integral part of the body must have at least 50% of the wing beyond
the rear portion of the body unless supported by photo documentation.
7. Must have front windshield and rear windows (if applicable, including quarter windows) from kit
or .007” thick (min.) clear plastic.
8. Body must extend beyond chassis when viewed from above. No part of chassis may be visible from
above and wider/longer than the bottom portion of body. Body side panels cannot extend beyond vertical.
9. Body can be cut out (or modified) to provide clearance for spur gear, but gear must be covered.
Cannot trim bottom of body (no lowering of body).
10. Body must have 3 numbers
CHASSIS
1. May be anglewinder, sidewinder or inline.
2. Must be scratchbuilt using any materials.
3. Maximum chassis width 3.000”. Chassis cannot extend beyond body (bottom portion of body).

Short Track NASCAR
BODY
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic hardbody, 1949-1979 American hardtop passenger car body. 2 seater cars not allowed.
2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May alter wheel wells to top of body.
4. Lower edge of body may be trimmed to bottom of door line.
5. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior.
6. Must have kit front and rear bumpers unless supported by photo documentation.
External front/rear and side bumpers can be used (made of piano wire and/or brass). Side bumpers must look similar to 1/1 car side bumpers
and be located similar to the real race cars (approx. midpoint height of door panel).
Note: side exhausts and/or bottom of chassis cannot extend beyond the body side panels.
7. Windows (windshield, side, rear windows) not required. Can use .007" thick (min.) clear plastic in lieu of kit windows.
8. Body must extend beyond chassis when viewed from above. No part of chassis may be visible from
above and wider/longer than the bottom portion of body. Body side panels cannot extend beyond vertical.
9. Body must have 3 numbers (roof and both sides)
CHASSIS
1. May be anglewinder, sidewinder or inline.
2. Can be scratchbuilt using any materials. Stamped FCR type chassis allowed (no flexis allowed).
3. Maximum chassis width 3.250”, but cannot extend beyond body. Bumpers, front/rear/side, can extend beyond body (side bumper no wider than 3.250").
4. Wheelbase to be determined by center of wheel wells in body (plus or minus 1/16”).
5. Ground clearance - .050” rear min., .015” front min., measured under axles (front of body to front axle, rear of body to rear axle).
TIRES
1. Tires can extend beyond the body when viewed from above, maximum width (front/rear tires) 3.250".
Front tires may need to be wider than normal (i.e.- wider than .250"). Chassis cannot be visible if there is a gap between tire and body (wheel well).
2. Rear tire diameter, 1.000” minimum.
3. Front tire diameter, .875” minimum. Front tire width needs to hide chassis when viewed from above.
MOTOR
1. Must use stock (sealed, no tampering) TSR D3, Falcon 7, Retro Hawk or Retro Eagle 606 motor.
DTM-GTR-GT3-Super GT
BODY
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic model car kit, DTM, GTR, GT3, Super GT car.
Only front engine 1/1 cars are allowed in this class.
2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May not alter wheel wells (bodies with side skirt covering wheel well area is allowed or can be
removed if it resembles real 1/1 race car).
4. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior.
5. Aero devices from kit or scratch built to resemble real car (documentation may be requested)
Cars with rear wing which Is not an integral part of the body must be mounted similar to real car (location and height.
6. Must use front windshield and rear windows (including quarter windows) from kit or .007" thick (min.) clear plastic.
7. Body must extend beyond chassis when viewed from above. No part of chassis may be visible from above and wider
than the bottom portion of body. Body side panels cannot extend beyond vertical.
8. Cars with bottom side panels: side panels can be replaced with chassis side pans but cannot exceed model kit side panel width or
3.250" whichever is less.
Cars with "side channel": side channel must be retained but bottom of side channel can be trimmed to within 1/8" of door panel bottom.
9. Bottom of body can be trimmed to within 1/8" of door panel bottom.
10. Body must have 3 numbers
CHASSIS

2. The following types are NOT ALLOWED: Porsche 911 GT1, Testors/Fujimi Kremer 934 (wide body),
any variation other than 911 and 934 not allowed.
3. May not alter body “side” panels. Bottom edge can be made flat. 934 front end must retain lower portion.
4. May not alter wheel wells.
5. Must have 3-D driver/interior (no paper interiors) and chassis not visible through interior.
6. Cars with rear wing (as shown on box cover) must be used.
7. Must have front windshield, rear window, rear quarter window from kit or .007" thick (min.) clear plastic.
Driver and passenger side window not req’d.
8. No part of chassis may be visible from above or wider than the bottom portion of body.
CHASSIS
1. Maximum chassis width 2 5/8”.
2. Must be scratchbuilt using any materials.
3. Wheelbase to be determined by wheel wells in body (plus or minus 1/16”). Complete
wheel/tire assembly must be visible in wheel well at a point level with axle centerline.
4. Any motor configuration (anglewinder, sidewinder, inline).

TIRES

Mid-Engine class
BODY
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic model car kit, mid-engine car.
Typical cars for this new class: LeMans race cars, GT-1, GTR, Can Am, Exotic high performance cars, etc.
2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May not alter wheel wells (bodies with side skirt covering wheel well area is allowed or can be
removed if it resembles real 1/1 race car)
4. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior.
5. Must have kit front and rear bumpers unless supported by photo documentation
6. Aero devices from kit or scratch built to resemble real car (documentation may be requested)

3. May not alter wheel wells.
4. Lower edge of body may be trimmed only to remove bottom flat portion.
5. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior. Open cockpit cars must have roll bar.
6. Must have kit front and rear bumpers unless supported by photo documentation
7. Must have kit front windshield and rear window or same as 1/1 race car or .007" thick (min.) clear plastic.
8. No part of chassis may be visible from above or wider than the bottom portion of body.

Foreign Production Sports (FPS)
An approved body list will be posted online. Only cars listed on the approved list are eligible.
BODY
1. May use any 1/24 – 1/25 scale plastic, Foreign, production sports cars (i.e.,
Acura, Mazda, Honda, Datsun, Nissan, Toyota, Ferrari, Mercedes, Porsche, Triumph,
Austin Healy, etc.). 1950 thru present. Most Mid-engine cars are not allowed, however, a mid-engine
car can be submitted for approval and become eligible once approved. Mid-Engine Audi R8 and mid-engine Lotus Europa are allowed.
2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May not alter wheel wells except for having fender flares if on 1/1 racing car.
4. Lower edge of body may be trimmed to within 1/8” below door line.
5. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior. Open cockpit cars
must have roll bar.
6. Must have kit front and rear bumpers unless supported by photo documentation
7. Must have kit front windshield and rear window or same as 1/1 race car or .007" thick (min.) clear plastic.

2. May flatten sides below body belt line, but not beyond vertical.
3. May not alter wheel wells (NASCARs).
Wheel well on "trucks" can conform to tire shape (some trucks have rectangular shape wheel wells which can be modified to conform to tire shape.
4. Aero skirt (if present on body) can be trimmed (up to skirt line on the side panels and front
end of the body). Older bodies (90’s) that do not have this skirt can be trimmed no closer
than 1/8” from the door line.
5. Must have 3-D driver/interior, chassis not visible through interior.
6. Must have kit front and rear bumpers. Trucks can use scratchbuilt front/rear bumpers in lieu of kit bumpers.
7. Aero devices from kit or scratch built to resemble real car (documentation may be requested)

MOTOR
1. Must use one of the following motors: stock 36D, Falcon 7, TSR D3, Retro Hawk or Retro Eagle 606 motor. inline, anglewinder, or sidewinder motor configuration allowed).
2. The following options are allowed for the 36D motor only:
A. Stock Armature can be epoxied and balanced. Commutator can be epoxied/tied, trued. No rewinds or dewinds allowed
(except for the “Modified 36D class” which allows rewinds for special races such as Talladega Nights, Darlington on the King track).
B. Can change endbell housing. Can use any motor brushes and brush assembly
C. Can use any motor bearings. Must use stock 36D magnets and can.
3. Talladega Nights cars only: these cars are designed to race on the BPR King track. These cars can use any
modified/rewound 36D motor.
1940-1959 STOCK CARS
INLINE TSR D3, Falcon 7, Retro Hawk or Retro Eagle 606 motor.
Note: originally, this class was for Falcon II or Slick 7 Mini Brute motors.
Falcon II production ended and the TSR D3 and Falcon 7 motors were selected as a replacement.
Recent revision allows anglewinder or sidewinder configuration.

Besides the types above, a special subclass is for TV/movie custom cars (i.e., Batmobile, Ghostbusters, Munsters, Monkees)
Production or modified production cars (i.e., knight rider, back to the future, Dukes of Hazzard, Bullitt,
Smokey and the Bandit, etc.) are not allowed.

7. Windows (windshield, side, rear windows) not required. Can use .007" thick (min.) clear plastic in lieu of kit windows.

end of the body). Older bodies (90’s) that do not have this skirt can be trimmed no closer
than 1/8” from the door line.

6. Must have kit front and rear bumpers. Trucks can use scratchbuilt front/rear bumpers in lieu of kit bumpers.
