Tim: Soi .850 and .900---what about chassis width?? Jul 24, 2015 21:44:15 GMT -8
The Barrister: The only one at the races that I know of. Trying to throw you all off. Jul 22, 2015 19:46:53 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: The Barrister, is that you Michael Kale? Jul 22, 2015 18:57:59 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Who is the Barrister? Jul 22, 2015 17:33:36 GMT -8
The Barrister: I like on the Race Reports the sheets showing the results for each heat. Jul 22, 2015 16:54:12 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: As for the minimum rear tire diameter, looks like .900" is needed to provide a wide enough track in the rear for three WRC bodies (Corolla, Focus, Lancer). Jul 22, 2015 13:46:20 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: After measuring 5 WRC bodies (as posted above in the chart), it appears that the minimum front tire diameter needed is .850" to clear the front wheel well without modifying the body for 3 WRC bodies. The other two bodies can accept a larger front tire. Jul 22, 2015 13:42:23 GMT -8 *
timneja: Perfect---so you think a good tire size would be .850 fronts and .950 rear? The chassis width at about 2 5/8? Would be easy to fit the bodies on that. These cars being a little taller and narrower will be fun to drive!! Jul 16, 2015 8:48:31 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Keep in mind that all of our D3 hardbody classes use tires that have diameters much smaller than scale. Typically, a "scale" tire diameter for NASCARs or GTPs would be closer to 1.20" vs. 1.00" on our cars. Real race cars have a lot of ground clearance. Jul 15, 2015 21:17:16 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Our slot cars with minimal track clearance require a much smaller tire diameter than scale in order to mount the body low to the track. So far, the bodies I've measured would probably need either .850" or .875" front tires in order to mount the body low. Jul 15, 2015 21:13:50 GMT -8
timneja: The tires I measured are all the same size. I guess because these are 4wd cars--they run the same size wheels and tires. We could do that for realism-- really don't need to have smaller front tires--just narrower would work Jul 15, 2015 18:51:52 GMT -8
timneja: We could file off the little angle at the bottom--It would not lower the body but would allow it to fit over the edge of the chassis easily! The "Kit" tire dimensions are 1.00" diameter on the ones I have. I'll bring them on Sunday for people to see. Jul 15, 2015 18:49:36 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Added photos (post above) of two WRC bodies showing the bottom portion of the body and the "L" shaped edge of the body. Jul 15, 2015 18:30:59 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: As the WRC body chart shows, if you make the chassis as wide as the max. body width and mount the body on top of the side pans, you can achieve the max. chassis width. Some bodies have side panels that are curved or angled at the bottom. Jul 15, 2015 17:33:01 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Tim, I just added a chart (see post above) showing some of the WRC model kit body dimensions. I'll update the chart as we collect more dimensions on other "legal" WRC bodies. Jul 15, 2015 17:30:16 GMT -8
timneja: The WRC bodies I have--Peugot and Ford Focus are both about 2.5" wide without trying to straighten them. It would be easy to get them to 2 5/8" and still look perfectly stock without having the sides over vertical. the kit has 1" tires in them! Jul 15, 2015 16:05:08 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: The same goes for the two remaining "inline" only classes, '46-'56 and '57-'79 NASCARs. We will consider changing the motor mounting rules for these two classes starting in January 2016 to allow "any" motor mounting (anglewinder, sidewinder, inline). Jul 14, 2015 22:19:49 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Craig, as far as changing rules for any racing class, we usually try to keep the rules the same until the new year, especially when it affects the Nats races. We certainly will consider changing the 3 C's rule for next year (starting in January). Jul 14, 2015 22:18:11 GMT -8
craigg: Any chance of changing the max width for CCC to 3.0" before the Nats? This would give the larger cars (C-5 Vettes, etc.) a chance of almost keeping up with the '53's. Jul 14, 2015 14:28:23 GMT -8
Keith Tanaka: Tire sizes and chassis width will depend on the dimensions of the WRC bodies available. Need time to collect more info on the various WRC bodies before establishing the WRC rules. Jul 14, 2015 12:46:40 GMT -8
