There has been some concern voiced by racers over the 2013 rules changes making the 1/24" scale '53 Corvette no longer legal.
I thought we should start a topic on alternative bodies for people who need to re-body theirs.
To get to fit a smaller 1/25 scale body to fit a wider chassis that makes the most out of the rules takes some work, but it is possible.
AMT 1/25 '63 Corvette Roadster kit.
It is an old kit with many re-issues of different variations that should be widely available and easy to find. I got mine from an old 3 Car set #8175, but it has been re-released several times since under different kit numbers. Here is one example (though it may die after the auction closes)...

In this example I had to cut out the wheelwells and add flares in order to get the maximum allowable track width both front and rear. The body also needs to be spread out so the sides are vertical to get the max width possible. By adding sidepipes, the overall width when viewed from above is 3 full inches, so they can cover any chassis and stay within the rules.
The major details after modifications;
Wheelbase: ~3 13/16" +/- 1/16"
Note: some variation due to how you re-arch and flare the wheel wells. The rules allow a +/- of 1/16" too, so there is some additional fudge factor if needed.
Body inside width after flattening sides to vertical: ~2 3/4"
Again variable. This is about as wide as I could get it after about a week of spreading.
Tip: It is much easier to spread out body's after you cut out the wheel wells but before you glue on the flares because the body is much weaker at this stage, same goes for other vintage Corvettes and Cobras too.
Max width when viewed from above after spreading and adding sidepipes: 3"
C/L of front axle to C/L of guide post ("guide lead") so that body legally covers standard guide when viewed from above: 15/32"
If anyone has any other questions or needs details on the modifications just ask.
P.S. I also have the AMT '57 Corvette from the same kit, and will try to post the dimensions and potential width of that kit too.
