Keith, I have a couple of the white Tamiya 962's and they measure exactly the same as your yellow one. Other kits I have are as follows;
Tamiya Porsche 956 (white Rothmans) measures Width 3.250 W/B 4.250
Hasegawa Mercedes C9 (Grey Sauber) measures Width 3.250 W/B 4.375

If the body is a LEGAL body---the rules DON'T say you have to narrow it. Only that the chassis has to be 3". It also DOES NOT say the body mounts can't reach out to the body! Seems simple. Not saying you're stupid---never inferred it either!! How about Hector's body mounts that reach out THROUGH the bodies?? They may be outside the 3" dimensions!

The body mounts are part of the chassis and cannot exceed 3.000". I'm "thinking" of revising the '80-Present NASCAR rule for chassis width. Many of the cars we raced in the enduro have bodies which exceed 3.000" in width. Since these cars all have vertical body side panels, it makes sense to have a maximum chassis width which is equal to the body width of these cars. This would provide a relatively stress free mounting of the body to the chassis. Stay tuned, the body width rule "will probably" change soon but it hasn't been decided yet.

Sounds like a good decision Keith---no problem Craig. BTW--the 1" / .875 wheels look great on the BRM Porsche---I'll get some pics up tomorrow when I get done mounting the body to the new chassis. T

Tim, Let me know if you plan a trip to BPR with that thing, I'd like to compare it to my Tamiya 962. I have a lot to learn and seeing what you have done with your chassis and mounting would be interesting.

I haven't done anything unique. It's similar to the late model nascar you saw at the enduro. I ran it today---got it down in the 5.5 range on yellow--so it's not as quick as yours yet I don't think. VERY easy to drive---handles well---might have to try a different motor to see it I can pick up a couple of tenths! The little Corvette is still my fastest hard body-- I got it down to 5.4's on yellow. And the nascar ran consistant 5.6's out on yellow--so it's quite a bit quicker than our enduro cars were--best times for those were 5.7's down on black. Had some fun testing the new cars I've built---the Camaro --Corvette---Porsche--and Nascar! All fun and handle pretty nice. So it's just a little more "tuning" and driving them--think they'll be fine.

BTW---the 1.00" and .875 tires look GREAT and seem to be the correct size to allow the bodies to be mounted as low as possible--but still fit the chassis perfectly!! The wheel wells look nice and full ---I think you'll like that size Keith!! FWIW It's hard to see the all black rear tires---but they "FILL" the wheel well completely!! The other pics are RTR car and driver inside!!!

Another possible Group C model kit is the Hasegawa Toyota 88C (yellow molded body, Team Tom's Taka-Q).
The body is 3.25" wide. Front tire width 3 3/16", rear tire width 3.25"
Wheelbase is 4 3/8". The body is a multi piece, thin plastic body with separate side panels and rear section. Also, a large rear spoiler that will need reinforcing (piano wire?) to support properly.

I've assembled my NEWMAN body---and it's 10 grams lighter than the BRM!! That's a lot of HIGH weight to remove from a race car!!! FYI
