Just for fun, I decided to build a 1/24 Mini Cooper. I've always liked the 1/1 Morris Mini Cooper because of their racing history. Some of the slot racers in the 60's had these 1/1 cars and had a blast driving them.
I used a Tamiya Morris Mini Cooper Racing 1/24 model kit. This version has the fender flares which help make this tiny car a bit wider than standard.
This is by far the smallest 1/24 hardbody I've built. The body has a wheelbase of 3.25", front body width (front wheel) is 2.375", rear width is 2.25".
Here's some photos of the car:
The basic chassis is an old 1/32 anglewinder chassis I had which was just collecting dust. I added .063" side pans (plummer style).
The body is mounted to the chassis using a "Gonzo "C" channel" rattle type body mount system. Front tires are .690" dia., rear tires are .750" dia. X .450" width.
Gear ratio is 11/39. Guide flag lead is negative 1/8" from 1/16" front axle. It's going to be interesting to see if this car runs well or is just another bad
example of a small slot car. Good or bad, I'll post the race track results as soon as I get a chance to visit BPR soon.
Just finished building this car. Haven't tested it yet on BPR's flat track, but certainly will before our next monthly race on Dec. 21st.
If this car is quick and handles well, I'll try to give Gonzo's BRE Datsun 510 some competition. I do think the Falcon II motor may need more horsepower
and may have to use a TSR D3 motor instead, but I'll start by trying the Falcon II motor.
