July's monthly D3 Hardbody races had a good turnout. A new racer (Scott Wilson) and a couple of racers who last raced with us quite awhile ago also raced (Tim Ballmer, Tim Herrera).
With the D3 Hardbody Nats just a few months away (Oct. 17-18), its time to start preparing our cars for the 6 different racing classes of the Nats.
A lot of close, fun racing with 4 races (mains) made for a busy race day.
The first race of the day was the "Mixed" race. 16 entries, so we had two 8 car mains. The first main consisted solely of 3 C's cars (corvette, cobra, cheetah, viper).
Craig Gilbert had a good race besting Ken Dylke by a lap and Bob Krigbaum finished 3rd. The second main was a mixed field of Jalopies (3), GTPs (2), a '62 Pontiac, '69 Road Runner and a Trans Am Corvair. Jalopies (Keith Tanaka, Phil Nyland) took first and second with a Trans Am Corvair (Hector Gonzalez) taking third.
The NASCAR race was next. This time we opened up the race for any of the three NASCAR classes ('46-'56, '57-'79, '80-present). Eddie Shorer took the checkered flag with Bob Krigbaum second and Craig Gilbert third.
The NASCAR Racer Handicap podium had Eddie and Bob again first and second, while Michael Kale took third.
The final race of the day was for GTPs. 7 entries with Bob Krigbaum nearly tying Eddie Shorer's GTP total lap record of 255. Keith Tanaka was second and Victor Dubrowsky took third driving a 962 Batman driven car.
Thanks to Jim and Debby Watterson for their support of D3 Hardbody racing at Buena Park Raceway.
Thanks to our race directors, Victor Dubrowsky and Tim Neja.

The next D3 races on Sunday, August 16th. Track opens at 10 am, "Mixed" race starts at noon, followed by the NASCAR and GTP races.
The 5th Annual D3 Hardbody Nats on Sat/Sun, Oct. 17-18th at BPR.
