For this year's hardbody Nats we have two race sponsors: Roger Uusitalo and "Impulse Racing #93". Roger has been sponsoring a number of our big hardbody races over the last several years and we want to thank him for his sponsorship. Also, this year we have a new sponsor: Impulse Racing #93. Check out their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/ImpulseRacing93/photos/a.226181257558126.1073741825.226179637558288/315956588580592/?type=1&theaterImpulse Racing competes in the half scale NASCAR type racing (Mini Cup) in Northern California. Andrew Payne drives car #93 and recently won the Championship, congrats to Andrew. After moving up to the Sacramento area a few years ago, D3's Paul Sterrett has been helping the Impulse Racing team prepare their race car. Paul's 1/1 racing experience and mechanical know how I'm sure helped to produce a winning car for Andrew. Some racing video clips of these Mini Cup races. Here's a view from car #93 (Andrew Payne's car). Madera Raceway 4/26/14You can see car #93 in this race at Madera Raceway 7/26/14 Madera Raceway 7/26/14Keith

Michael, I'm not familiar with these half scale racing cars. I think they have a 13 hp motor, but I don't know how fast they go. The video clip gives you an idea of how it feels to ride in the car during a race.

Our car is powered by a Honda GX390 engine on race fuel. Depending on the track size the car will average between 55 to 70 mph per lap. We have one 1/4 mile oval and two 1/3 mile ovals that we race on. Hoping to have an opportunity to run a road course event again. We ran two road course events our first season and enjoyed those quite a bit.

Thanks for your response TJ.
Is the Honda engine used for another application other than this type of racing?
Are you allowed to modify the engine in any way?
Knowing Paul, has he come up with any modifications to the car which might be deemed "borderline" as far as the rules are concerned? Just kidding, but Paul likes to be creative while always trying to improve performance.
Keith
p.s. - Are you and Andrew related to Paul?

The GX390 is used in industrial applications (pressure washers, generators, etc.). It is a spec class and the engines are sealed, so we aren't really allowed any modifications. There is only one approved “sealer” that is local to us. We change oil/replace valve springs after every race. We can use whatever jet for the carb we want. Other rules define our ride height, left side weight and total weight etc.. We are also limited in what shocks and springs we are allowed to use.
Paul is my uncle, and has expended a lot of time, effort, energy and knowledge to our racing program. And for that, we are very appreciative.
