UPDATED Dec. 18, 2012
The following "proposed" rules changes will take effect January 2013.
Proposed changes:
Trans Am: Revell or Monogram 1/24 AAR Cuda body will no longer be legal to use. Reason for ban: this body is significantly larger than scale.
3 C's: 1/24 '53Corvette body will no longer be legal to use.
Reason for ban: this body is wider than other 3 C bodies and discourages using other 3 C bodies. Note: the '57 Corvette body is similar in size except the front tire width portion is slightly narrower than the '53 body and the '57 body is lower to the track which makes it more difficult to use a wide chassis/tire combination as the '53 Corvette.
A driver's meeting was held at our Nov. 18th monthly race with the following agreement: The '53 Corvette body will NOT be banned. The racer's voted on allowing the use of this body along with implementing a racer's handicap for the 3 C racing class. The racer's handicap will eliminate the advantage of the '53 Vette has on other 3 C bodies. Along with allowing the '53 Corvette, cars from 1950 to present will be allowed in this handicap racing class (i.e., Viper and newer Corvettes will be allowed to race)
36D classes (Stock 36D, Talladega Nights): Front and rear tire track (outside of tires) will be 2.9375" ( 2 15/16"). Currently, this dimension is 2.875". Reason for change: the revised dimension is actually what was orginally used in this racing class many years ago.
Another racing class, '46-'56 was discussed. It was agreed upon by the racer's to combine this new class with the existing 36D class and expand this class from 1946 to 1979 stock cars. Also, this combined racing class will allow the use of alternate motors (Falcon II, Slick 7 Mini-Brute) along with the original 36D. Motors must be inline as the original 36D motor. This expanded class will widen the body styles available as well as allow using a sealed Falcon type motor (as mentioned above).
Jalopy: Guide flag must be completely within the body (when viewing from above). Reason for change: originally, it was believed that you needed to have a guide flag position in front of the front axle in order for the car to handle well. In the last year or two, several cars have been built and raced with either a neutral position or "negative" guide flag position (guide flag post located behind front axle). These cars handle as well as any other car with a normal guide flag position. Also, the current rule does call out the body covering the entire chassis when viewed from above. The guide flag was considered as part of the chassis, but a clarification (as noted above) of the guide flag is needed.
Any questions or comments on these proposed changes?
Keep in mind that these rules changes do not take effect until January 2013. For the rest of this year, continue to race whatever you have been racing each month.
